The tools and tendencies of con-men and dictators, large and small. These things aren't new but their breadth and reach have never been greater. A 100 years ago their use through emerging communication capabilities helped lead to some of the most horrendous events of human history. In our time, with the leaps in information technologies, instant mass communication, and now AI, their proliferation faces us with the potential for something even worse. What to do? There are many things, but key to combatting this break with reality is fostering growth towards a majority committed to reality. And towards this we invite you to join the Reality-Based Community!

The Card is the first step. Further steps start with upping the sophistication of the initial marketing campaign around the Card. With success and expanding resources, we intend to broaden the campaign beyond the Card, along with developing tools and platforms aid people make it easier to spot and explain bullshit, , uao stimulate real-time fact checked debate, make it easier to discern fact from fiction, the breadth and sophistication of the campaign can increase, using the expanse of digital resources and platforms to communicate, increase awareness, persuade and develop tools to arrive at our goals.
The Reality-Based Community. Some Background.
The phrase "Reality-Based Community" first appeared in an article published by Ron Suskind in The New York Times Magazine in 2004. In a conversation with a senior advisor to George W. Bush, Suskind was criticized for being part of the "reality-based community," with the advisor defining it as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." He went on to say "that's not the way the world really works anymore. We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality." In a larger context, those outside of the reality-based community have, for the last few decades, increasingly felt comfortable in pushing agendas based on fabricated facts and disregard of evidence, and gaining support and power through lies, false narratives and the like.
What is Reality Anyway?
Don't get me wrong. We all have a right to push for the reality we want to take shape. But we don't have the right to avoid fact and evidence, and use manipulative false means in achieving that reality. There are many kinds of reality really. What I was just talking about is our Social Reality, the systems we live in- laws, governments, companies, etc. that shape the human world we must function in. We each have our own Personal Reality. But at the base of all is Physical Reality- the reality of the universe of which we are a part. Where things are as they really are, and events occur as the really occur.
